Ideal CandidateA friendly, proactive team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in providing excellent service.

Your Role at RaceTrac: More Than Just a Job

At RaceTrac, we are in the business of moving people forward. That goes for the guests who fuel up with us and the associates who power our stores. As a Store Associate, you are not just a cashier or a stocker; you are the face of our brand, the problem-solver, the friendly smile that turns a routine stop into a pleasant part of someone’s day. You’ll be at the epicenter of our operations, ensuring that from the moment a guest walks in until the moment they leave, their experience is seamless, positive, and efficient.

This role is a dynamic blend of customer service, operations, and teamwork. If you’re looking for a position where no two days are the same, where you can build tangible skills, and where your efforts are directly visible in a thriving store environment, then you’ve found it.

What You’ll Do: A Day in the Life

Your responsibilities are diverse, ensuring the store operates like a well-oiled machine. They can be broken down into three key areas:

1. Deliver an Exceptional Guest Experience

This is your primary and most important function. You are the reason a guest chooses RaceTrac over any other stop.

  • Warm and Efficient Service: You’ll operate the point-of-sale (POS) and self-checkout stations with speed and accuracy. But it’s more than just scanning items; it’s about making a genuine connection. A simple “How’s your day going?” can make all the difference.
  • ** proactive Engagement:** You’ll learn our product offerings so you can confidently and genuinely suggest additional items. For example, if a guest is buying a coffee, you might mention our fresh breakfast sandwiches or a new pastry we just received. This isn’t upselling; it’s enhancing their visit.
  • Problem Resolution: When a guest has a concern—a product is out of stock, a pump isn’t working, or they have a question about a charge—you are the first responder. You’ll address issues with urgency, a positive attitude, and involve managers when necessary to ensure a swift and satisfactory resolution.
  • Fostering Teamwork: A positive guest experience starts with a positive team environment. You’ll work collaboratively with your fellow associates and managers, creating a respectful and supportive atmosphere that guests can feel the moment they walk in.

2. Help Keep Our Stores Stocked & Fresh

Our guests rely on us for fresh food, hot coffee, and cold beverages. You are the guardian of that promise.

  • Product Availability: You’ll constantly monitor product levels on the sales floor, in coolers, and in display cases. This involves:
    • Rotating stock using the “First-In, First-Out” (FIFO) method to ensure freshness.
    • Restocking shelves from the backroom inventory in an organized and timely manner.
    • Checking expiration dates and removing any items that are no longer fit for sale.
  • Food Safety & Sanitation: In food prep areas, you will adhere to all health and safety regulations. This includes wearing appropriate gear, maintaining proper temperatures for food holders, and ensuring all surfaces are sanitized regularly. Your diligence ensures our guests can trust the quality and safety of everything they purchase.
  • Merchandising: You’ll help keep our store visually appealing by building attractive displays, ensuring products are faced forward, and placing promotional items in high-visibility areas as directed.

3. Keep It Clean & Organized

A clean store is an inviting store. You take ownership of the store’s appearance, both inside and out.

  • Routine Cleaning Tasks: You will perform regular cleaning duties throughout your shift. This includes:
    • Sweeping and mopping floors.
    • Wiping down counters, tables, and fuel islands.
    • Cleaning restrooms and ensuring they are well-stocked.
    • Emptying trash receptacles.
  • Creating a Welcoming Atmosphere: A spotless store directly contributes to a positive guest perception. You ensure the interior is tidy, the parking lot is free of debris, and the pumps are clean, creating an environment where guests feel comfortable and valued.
  • Inventory Support: You will assist in receiving vendor deliveries and accurately storing products. Your attention to detail helps in maintaining accurate inventory counts, which is crucial for store ordering and profitability.

What We’re Looking For in You

We believe the right attitude is the foundation for success. While we provide the training, you bring the drive.

  • Education: A High School Diploma or GED is required (or currently in progress).
  • Experience: Previous experience in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment like retail, hospitality, or food service is a strong plus, but not a deal-breaker. We value proven reliability and a customer-centric mindset above all.
  • The Right Attitude:
    • A Team Player: You collaborate effectively, support your colleagues, and understand that the team’s success is your success.
    • Initiative-Taker: You see what needs to be done and you do it without always being asked. You are proactive, not reactive.
    • People Person: You genuinely enjoy interacting with a diverse range of people and making their day a little brighter.
  • Physical Requirements: The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform tasks involving bending, reaching, and light cleaning is essential for this role.
  • Certifications: Depending on state and local regulations, you may be required to obtain and maintain a food handler or alcohol server permit. We will guide you through this process if needed.

What’s In It for You? Your Rewards & Growth

At RaceTrac, we invest in our people because they are our most valuable asset. When you join our team, you’re not just getting a paycheck; you’re gaining a partner in your growth.

  • Competitive Compensation: Earn a competitive hourly rate of $15.50 for select locations and shifts. We recognize and reward your hard work.
  • Unmatched Flexibility: We understand you have a life outside of work. We offer flexible scheduling designed to accommodate school, family, or other commitments, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Clear Career Growth: We promote from within! RaceTrac is built on a culture of internal advancement. Many of our District Managers, Corporate staff, and other leaders began their careers as Store Associates. Your journey here can take you as far as you want to go.
  • Comprehensive Training & Development: You won’t be thrown into the deep end. We provide hands-on, paid training to equip you with all the skills you need to succeed, from operating our systems to mastering customer service.
  • A Dynamic & Fun Environment: Say goodbye to monotony. Our stores are vibrant, energetic hubs of activity. You’ll build friendships with your team and enjoy a workplace that is fast-paced, supportive, and rewarding.
